Breastfeeding Basics

Whether you’re just considering breastfeeding your baby or you’ve struggled with breastfeeding in the past, this class will teach you everything you need to know to get started with breastfeeding. Topics include: World Health Organization recommendations, latch, positioning, breastfeeding in the hospital, how to make milk, pumping and storing milk, common problems, and more. You’ll get to practice positioning with our special dolls. We recommend taking this class any time after the first trimester, and the beginning of the third trimester is optimum.

This class is held monthly and is taught by International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Lisa Follet. Lisa brings knowledge, enthusiasm and compassion to the class!Classes are offered one Saturday a month,  from 9am to 11:30am. Space is limited and classes fill up quickly so please don’t hesitate to register today!

Bellingham OB/GYN will submit a claim to your commercial insurance plan for the cost of the Lactation Education class. Your claim will be processed according to the benefits of your plan. If your insurance does not cover this class, there is a $20 fee charged.  We are unable to bill state insurance plans for this class. This class is limited to Bellingham OB/GYN patients only. To register, simply call the office at 360-671-4944, payment can be taken over the phone.

Patients can call and register with our front office staff. Spouses, partners or a support person are encouraged, but not required to attend. We do limit it to one visitor per patient during our classes.

Childbirth Education Class

Learn the essentials of the birth process and options for how to manage labor with or without pain medications. Topics include: birth partner communication, packing a hospital bag, informed decision-making, creating a birth plan, your baby’s role in labor, the labor process, stages of labor, fetal position, medical pain relief options, non-medical pain relief options and labor positions. You will have the opportunity for hands-on touch and labor position practice to help you feel more prepared and confident going into labor. This class is recommended at the end of the second trimester or beginning of the third trimester.

This class is taught by the certified childbirth educators and doulas at Doulas of Bellingham, with over 13 years combined experience in childbirth education and labor doula experience. Doulas of Bellingham approaches education from a place of unbiased support so you can feel more at ease as your labor approaches. Classes are held the second Saturday of each month from 9am to 12:30pm. Spouses, partners or a support person are encouraged, but not required to attend. We do limit it to one visitor per patient during our classes. The class is held in the waiting room of Bellingham OB/GYN. Please bring a light snack, refreshments are not provided. 

This class is open to all Bellingham OB/GYN patients and patients of Family Care Network only. Patients can call and register with our front office staff.  Phone number is 360-671-4944.  This class is not covered by insurance. Cost for this education course is $85.00.

Postpartum & Infant Care

People often spend so much time preparing for birth that postpartum is overlooked. This class prepares you to have a confident postpartum recovery by sharing what to expect with your body, as well as caring for your newborn. Topics include: the welcoming hour, bonding, newborn procedures, physical recovery from birth, support needed after birth, postpartum supplies you may need, emotional health challenges after birth, soothing & swaddling your baby, basic newborn care, PURPLE crying and introduction to breast & bottle feeding.

This class is taught by the certified childbirtha educators and Postpartum & Infant Care doulas at Doulas of Bellingham, with over 13 years combined experience in childbirth education and postpartum doula experience. Doulas of Bellingham approaches education from a place of unbiased support so you can feel more at ease as your labor approaches. Classes are held the third Tuesday of each month from 6pm to 8:30pm. Spouses, partners or a support person are encouraged, but not required to attend. We do limit it to one visitor per patient during our classes. The class is held in the waiting room of Bellingham OB/GYN. Please bring a light snack, refreshments are not provided. 

This class is open to all Bellingham OB/GYN patients along with patients of Family Care Network. Patients can call and register with our front office staff. Our phone number is 360-671-4944. This class is not covered by insurance. Cost for this education course is $55.

Twin Education Classes

Twin Education 

The classes go in rotation and cover three main topics:

Class I: -Types of twins (mono-di, di-di) -General care of  twin pregnancies (including general ultrasound and appointment patterns) -Potential complications -Nutrition

Class II: -Review of potential complications -Labor & delivery (to include information about epidurals, OR delivery location, c-sections) -Birth plans -Special care nursery/NICU

Class III: -Preparing to bring babies home -Care of twins (schedules of feeding, sleeping and diapers) -Breasfeeding or formula feeding -Postpartum care

These classes are lead by Jen Hampton, RN. Jen has been with Bellingham OB/GYN for over 8 years and has two sets of twin girls! Patients expecting twins can call the front office staff for dates, times and to register. Spouse, partner or your support person are permitted, but not required, to attend. The charge is $20 per class and payment is due when registering with a member of the front office. This class is strictly for patient of Bellingham OB/GYN only!
