Breastfeeding Basics

Whether you’re just considering breastfeeding your baby or you’ve struggled with breastfeeding in the past, this class will teach you everything you need to know to get started with breastfeeding. Topics include: World Health Organization recommendations, latch, positioning, breastfeeding in the hospital, how to make milk, pumping and storing milk, common problems, and more. You’ll get to practice positioning with our special dolls. We recommend taking this class any time after the first trimester, and the beginning of the third trimester is optimum.

This class is held monthly and is taught by International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Lisa Follet. Lisa brings knowledge, enthusiasm and compassion to the class!Classes are offered one Saturday a month,  from 9am to 11:30am. Space is limited and classes fill up quickly so please don’t hesitate to register today!

Bellingham OB/GYN will submit a claim to your commercial insurance plan for the cost of the Lactation Education class. Your claim will be processed according to the benefits of your plan. If your insurance does not cover this class, there is a $20 fee charged.  We are unable to bill state insurance plans for this class. This class is limited to Bellingham OB/GYN patients only. To register, simply call the office at 360-671-4944, payment can be taken over the phone.

Patients can call and register with our front office staff. Spouses, partners or a support person are encouraged, but not required to attend. We do limit it to one visitor per patient during our classes.

Childbirth Education Class

Childbirth Education

This course is for all expecting parents, no matter what type of birth your planning. Topics covered include anatomy and physiology, physical changes during pregnancy, fetal development, nutrition, preterm labor warning signs, normal labor, labor positions, medications, and birth plans.

Our Childbirth Education Courses are lead by Lisa Follet, CAPPA Certified Childbirth Educator. We offer this course in several different formats, upcoming class dates & formats:

  • Saturday March 31, 2018          ONE & DONE       8am – 12pm
  • Saturday April 28, 2018             ONE & DONE       1pm – 5pm
  • Saturday May 12, 2018              ONE & DONE       8am – 12pm
  • Saturday June 9, 2018                ONE & DONE      8am – 12pm

Must be a patient of BELLINGHAM OB/GYN to register and attend this class. Partners, support person or family member are welcome but we do limit this class to one support person only. Class pricing varies on format offered and range between $85 – $155 and includes all materials.


Postpartum & Infant Care

Postpartum & Infant Care

This essential class will cover all of the basics of care for your new baby as well as recovery for mom. Topics will include: postpartum physical changes, emotional changes, community resources, newborn characteristics and care, safe sleeping, PURPLE crying, car seat safety, and bonding with baby. This class is highly recommended for anyone expecting their first child. Partner, support person or family member are welcome to attend but we do limit this class to one support person.

Class is lead by Lisa Follet, CAPPA Certified Childbirth & Postpartum Educator. This is a two hour class, held at Bellingham OB/GYN facility from 6-8pm. Date changes every month and class is typically held on a Tuesday. Please contact our office for class dates. Must be a patient of Bellingham OB/GYN to register and attend this course.  The class fee is $55 and includes all course materials.

Twin Education Classes

Twin Education 

The classes go in rotation and cover three main topics:

Class I: -Types of twins (mono-di, di-di) -General care of  twin pregnancies (including general ultrasound and appointment patterns) -Potential complications -Nutrition

Class II: -Review of potential complications -Labor & delivery (to include information about epidurals, OR delivery location, c-sections) -Birth plans -Special care nursery/NICU

Class III: -Preparing to bring babies home -Care of twins (schedules of feeding, sleeping and diapers) -Breasfeeding or formula feeding -Postpartum care

These classes are lead by Jen Hampton, RN. Jen has been with Bellingham OB/GYN for over 7 years and has two sets of twin girls! Patients expecting twins can call the front office staff for dates, times and to register. Spouse, partner or support person are permitted, but not required, to attend. The charge is $20 for patients of Bellingham OB/GYN (spouse/partner included) and $30 for none Bellingham OB/GYN patients (spouse/partner included). Fees are to be paid when registering for classes.

Birth Partner Class

Birth Partner Classes are now offered at BELLINGHAM OB/GYN! This course is taught by Lisa Follet, CAPPA Certified Childbirth Educator. This class was created just for birth partners! This fast-paced course will prepare you to support the pregnant or laboring mom to be. Topics covered include a brief overview of the birth process then diving right into warning signs, tracking contractions, comfort measures and pain management techniques, and postpartum emotional changes.

This course will be offered one Tuesday evening from 6 – 8pm, every other month. To register for this class, please contact a member of our front office staff. Class fee is $55.

**This class is for partner/support person only. Patients of Bellingham OB/GYN need not attend this course with support person**
